Either I'm getting old and my preferences for a bar/hangout have changed, or the new batch of 21 year olds are complete tools. Whatever the case may be, Jake's just doesn't do it for me the way it did when I first was legally able to drink. On weekends, this place gets ridiculously crowded. It is nearly impossible to navigate through the place or get a drink in a timely manner. The upside to weekends is they give out free peanuts, popcorn, and hot dogs after 11:30. I prefer to come during the week, it is more laid back and I can actually get a booth with my friends. Wednesdays are $1.50 wells. I had dinner here a couple times and the food is decent. All in all, Jake's is the trendy college bar where everyone goes to be seen. Not really my cup of tea anymore.

This place is half-ass alright. Random car parts and gas-station items like ancient gas pumps that take up available floor space are supposed to give it the "roadhouse" feel, what ever the hell that is. But what I really remember about Jake's is a lot of popcorn, handing out of free hot dogs, always doing shots there, standing around in high-traffic areas, yelling at ESPN highlights on the TV's, and random bullshit going on. It was always a good destination for Sunday hangover brunch. All of the calzones are pretty good.

Free hotdogs, popcorn, and peanuts on weekends...lots of hot slutty chicks, and lots of asshole boyfriends. They have a decent jukebox that when you play decent songs, will be skipped. Go here to find: player haters People shitting in the bathrooms sluts to hook up with expensive drinks with long ass lines. I still love it.

This was my favorite bar at Purdue. Drinks are so cheap during the week, and I always felt like it was the place that you go where you run into everyone in college. It's really big, too. Great place to watch sports, and they have a really decent menu. I specifically remember the buffalo chicken wrap. Staff is friendly, waiters are attentive, environment is fun. It gets pretty damn crowded on the weekends, but I guess what can you expect in a college bar? Also, I didn't care about this but I know they are known for free hot dogs at 11 and free popcorn all of the time :)

A better bar than a restaurant. The night life is great and the free hotdogs, popcorn and peanuts are good.

Jakes is one of my more favorite spots at Purdue. It's great to sit down and just be social with friends in a booth (if you can get one). It's really big and holds a lot of people with 2 separate areas and has a lot of TVs. Always hard to get a drink here because it gets packed. I used to always love coming here during class and getting their 1/2 priced appetizers and a beer while I had a break. Even had study groups here during the day. Had some great nights here, and always come back when I'm in the area.

Free hotdogs and popcorn, you can't beat that. This is definitely your "campus bar" since it gets crazy as shit on Thirsty Thursdays and the entire weekend. But, the prices are reasonable and free food is free food.

Jakes is the place to go if you are looking for a chill night, or are hungry for free food (hot dogs and popcorn). The drink specials aren't exceptional but they aren't overpriced either. Could be better to draw is a larger crowd. The people who usually come here are college students who want to just sit around and drink and not necessarily get crazy and party. If you want a place to just relax with friends, come here.

I was never particularly fond of this place, but it did give me some great memories when I was student and even an as an alumni. So where to begin? - It's a really big place, but will be completely crowded during the weekend or for special events like basketball. - The food is pretty good. Probably one of the better places on campus to get bar food. Good buffalo chicken sandwiches, burgers, thin-crust pizzas, sweet potato fries, and the fries that are smothered in nacho cheese, ranch, and bacon. (I think the Roadhouse fries?? It's been awhile). - When I'm at Jake's, I usually stick to beer. Mixed drinks are usually drowned with cheap liquor and ice. It's too bad they just don't make 'em taste better. - Service can be shoddy. I've had a couple of rude/careless servers. Why go here? 1) Free hot dogs at around 11pm on the weekend. 2) Screwdrivers for breakfast club. 3) To eat dinner, while watching the Boilers in the playoffs. 4) Because you're friends are going.

NO UGLIES ALLOWED! You will see t-shirts all around on campus. This is where those come from! It's a Purdue bar! It's one of the "campus bars" and one of my favorites! Oh the memories galore and the continuing on memories in the making when I can! So many friends, college late nights, home game day mornings breakfast club screwdrivers for 25 cents, free hot dogs-peanuts-popcorn from the hot dog man, free cover, non-smoking, college priced drinks, awesome bartenders, centrally located on campus with hotbox pizza next door for your drunk munchies and taxi ride wait. Jakes, my bar boyfriend Jakes! We have so many late night drunk dates together and I am sorry that I had to break up with you after graduation and just be friends now. I visit you less and must make Harry's my top bar boyfriend where the alumni are spotted. My age is rising! I don't want to break up! I want to sit in your booths with my friends, play cards, mingle with people talking to strangers w/ the "liquid courage" wearing their "beer goggles!" It's so ...well flattering! Haha. Thankfully a doorman bouncer is the one who got my number once there, so I haven't had many hard visits there in my prime years! Tip: The magic word is "PLEASE!" Free hot dogs, popcorn, and peanuts in the back on prime weekend hours! You MUST say "please" to the hot dog man - no joke. I love him. Teaching drunken college kids for years to have some manners! He might keep you standing there asking and you won't know why, he might tell you, he might decline you a hot dog if you are rude (but he is the best and hot dogs for all drunkie guests!). I always know to say please. Over the years you will see a few people not say please and be entertained. Also, it's polite to say thank you! Drunk college weekends. I asked for a hot dog once with a please and thank you and the hot dog man surprised me! I got the foil wrapped one sitting on the side of the bin of the others... Ok? Well, WINNER! "Two weenies, one bun!" I loved this! The joke was fantastically delivered and the hotdog man entertained himself! Maybe it was a joke alone, maybe he has seen me toss my bun a couple times and only want the meat, maybe it was enough visits over the years of please for hot dogs that it was time to go back to him laughing and have a conversation finally. The college line can wait. It was time to meet him for a quick chat. What a kind fella! Tip 2: Arrive early for a table or booth. Someone in the group will hold it all night so you won't get a booth/seat/table unless you arrive early on prime times, hours, nights, events. Tip 3: If you forget your playing cards they have decks behind the bar for cheap sale. Good to know! I love playing drinking games at jakes for years! This bar is a college Purdue hit. It isn't the dancing floor one, but there is a juke box playing the music. The PhD kids are smart and have mastered tip 4: come early and get your songs requested on the juke box! I have had so much fun here. Growing up sucks! But, visiting when I can, there are less friends to run in to but the place is always the same awesome experience. Boiler up! Black and Gold! Hail Purdue! Jake's is one of the favorite college bars here. It's a good place to meet up with friends for sure! Then, and now. Check it out!

1 star is being generous. The service was awful. We waited 10 mins for our beer after we ordered. We asked what was good and the waitress said "the pizza." Well, it was going to take an hour to get a pizza so she suggested any of the appetizers would be faster. 40 mins later, we got our chicken fingers along with the loaded fries (2 fries had bacon on them). Beer was served in some sticky glasses. Won't be back.

This was our go-to bar when we went to Purdue a few years ago. It's open to underage people until 9 PM so it's a good place to go grab lunch or watch a game with friends. After 9 it turns into a bustling bar. If you get there early you can lay claim to a table which always make the experience better. However, make sure you don't leave it unattended or it will get stolen by someone else in a heartbeat. It can get pretty crowded if you are stuck standing by the bar. They offer free popcorn and hot dogs on Friday and Saturday nights. However, I heard they recently changed their rules so you can no longer just stroll in there to grab a hot dog and then bounce. However, that might be a good thing since the hot dogs were garbage. They were the super cheap ones composed of lips and assholes; anything that's left over after all the good meat has gone into the quality hot dogs. The drink prices here are better than most of the Purdue bars. However, the best time to go is during the summer when they offer summer specials. The drinks are dirt cheap then and it's not nearly as crowded during sports games. We came here all the time to watch the World Cup games. I would highly recommend giving this place a go if you're a Purdue student or if you're just looking for a place to grab a bite to eat and watch a game.

I used to love Jake's in college, but it's annoying now. Cheap drinks, and the food (if you don't mind having a heart attack) is actually quite tasty. Just be prepared to deal with a lot of drunks, rude waiters, and loud music.

Okay for a college bar. Cheap drinks. Free hotdogs. ...But they played Smashmouth and everyone started singing along.

The food here is pretty good and the bar attracts a consistent stream of people. Love going here to watch the games with friends and they have a good set of bartenders/waiters. Not somewhere you would go if you're looking to dance, but a good place to socialize .

Easily my favorite campus bar at Purdue. It's definitely a dive bar but has some of the best bar food around- Roadhouse fries are particularly awesome. Nice and relaxing that can get pretty packed on Thursday/Friday/Saturday nights! Some decent specials during the week, especially fishbowls on Thursdays.

The food prices are on the expensive side for what it is, but they taste great. However, Jake's has great drink prices and bountiful seating that is unmatched by any other bar on campus. For that reason alone, we frequent this bar. Go on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday nights for free hot dogs! We go here in spite of the HORRIBLE SERVICE. Jake's has the most consistently nastiest, bitchiest, moodiest waitresses.

I went to Michigan state and after a basketball game my bf and I followed the crowd and ended up at this bar. It's a simple divey kind of bar. There's a whole side that we didn't know existed and when we found that side, we stayed over there. I like that there were more than one bar setups in the place, so we didn't have to fight for a drink. I don't know if it'd be my first choice to go again, but its a bar and it got the job done.

I spent many evenings this summer with friends at Jake's. Granted, they did offer $1.50 well drinks all summer. There was also a "shot girl" on Friday and Saturday nights who brought around several types of shots that sold for $0.75 each (try a Ninja Turtle!). You could certainly get nice and toasted for under $10. Located in Chauncey Hill, Jake's consists of two large rooms, both with full-service bars and big TVs. There is always something fun going on, such as a Guitar Hero competition or karaoke. Even though there is quite a bit of seating, it gets pretty packed if you get there anytime after 9:30pm. If you arrive after that, you will probably end up standing around for awhile. Can't say I ever got around to buying any food -- but who needs to buy food when Jake's has free hot dogs?!

The only good thing this bar has going for it on weekend nights is free hot dogs, peanuts, and popcorn. Make sure you say please too!! They have some great specials during the week too. The food is good for lunch, calzones are great, but the severs are a bit slow not not the nicest.

My girlfriends and I have been out of college now for about five years (gasp!!) but we still love visiting our younger siblings at Big Ten schools across the Midwest. We call these jaunts into undergraduate land, "college night" and doll ourselves up like a version of our 19 year old selves in small strappy tank tops, muffin top jeans and hooker boots to fit in. When cutie patootie sophomore boys hit on us, we shout "still got it" and act like numbskulls gone wrong. That's right...we cause a ruckus. Last summer, we loaded up and headed to West Lafayette and decided that Jake's was our first stop (and nearly last) of the night. We are old and got there before the rush around 8:30 so we could eat first. We found a corner table and started scouting out the youngin's. What we found? All the boys in W. Lafayette are short and the drunker we got (great drinks!), the more vocal we got about this. :) Other than that, our meals and drinks were great. Our waitstaff recognized big spenders getting top shelf drinks (real jobs allow for more money to be spent) and ordering tons of shots. We had such a blast chillin' in our little corner that we almost didn't abandon it 'til nearly closing time. By then, the bar was racked with frat boys and (are there even any girls at PU? I often wonder) engineer majors with fake IDs. For something a bit more updated than Harry's and a place that doesn't get as crowded as early, Jake's is a great choice. For the ladies, watch out...they grow 'em short in W. Lafayette! :)

They kicked us out bc we had a bag of chex mix on the table. I hate Jakes. Where else or brothers is so much better. Boiler up!!!!

I worked at Jake's in the summer of 2000 and even though they fired me, I continued patronizing them till as late as Dec. '07. My favorite item there were the Buffalo Chicken fingers and they make pretty decent pizzas too. But honestly, who goes there for food? Pretty good jukebox for a college bar. Any bar-owner who has Neil Young's "Cortez the Killer" is a friend of mine ...

Free hot dogs. Free peanuts. Free popcorn. Add cheap drinks, attentive waitresses, and a jam-packed yet fairly relaxed crowd and you've got a solid college bar that leaves me wondering why I didn't go to Purdue!? A big tip o' the hat goes to my Purdue alum girlfriend for taking me here. I already knew she had good taste in bars, I just got to see where it all started.

Generally speaking, there are better bars in WL. Weekend nights and Breakfast Clubs are all overcrowded, and there is a large contingent of the Greek types that like to call Jakes home. I went there for a few pitchers during the Michigan-Purdue game (which we won in Ann Arbor) and the bar area was full of a bunch of Purdue students who were wearing Michigan jerseys and cheering on Michigan. Hello, do you know where you are at? This place is always full of traitor pieces of shit wearing an assortment of IU hats, Notre Dame jackets, and all sorts of our rival teams clothes. If you want a real Purdue bar, walk next door to Harry's instead. This crowded hell hole is just not worth your time.

It's not one of the best bars in the area. They don't have a lot of beer selections, and the environment isn't as friendly as Black Sparrow or Chumleys. Their food is also just so so. The place is most popular among college kids, so it seems a little weird for graduate students to be there.. it's definitely awkward to see your students at the same bar.... The one thing I like about Jake's is you don't smell like cigarettes as you leave the place.

This used to be my favorite bar when I was at Purdue. I don't really know what made it better than any of the other bars around there but I just liked it. The booze is cheap and even cheaper in the summer and you get crappy free hot dogs that taste amazing when you're three sheets to the wind.

Classic purdue bar. Free hotdog and popcorn on the weekends... Just make sure you say thankyou!!! Tons of drink specials. Alot of seating for larger groups, but it gets very crowded as night continues.
